Multimodal learners often benefit from combining strategies from different modalities, rather than relying on just one approach all the time.

Using Strategies From Multiple Modalities

If your VARK result includes more than one modality, you may find it useful to explore strategies from each of your preferred modalities and combine them in ways that work for you.

For example:

• If your result is VK, you may benefit from combining Visual and Kinesthetic strategies.
• If your result is ARK, you may find it useful to combine Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic approaches.

Many multimodal learners find it helpful to combine ideas from more than one helpsheet. They prefer to:

• use different strategies in different situations,
• combine several approaches together,
• or reinforce learning by revisiting information in another modality.

Some people with multimodal preferences have told us they find it necessary to use more than one strategy for learning and communicating. They feel insecure with only one. Others can “get it” using just one of their preferred modalities.

You do not need to use every modality equally in every situation. The goal is to choose strategies that work well for the task, the context, and your goals.
